The term is also often used interchangeably with \u201cinterstitials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interstitial<\/strong> is a broad term that can be applied to pop-ups and other similar content such as overlays and modals. According to a study by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optimonk.com\/popup-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OptiMonk<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The average conversion rate for pop-ups is around 11% for mobile and 10% for desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Full-screen pop-ups can increase conversion rates by up to 14%<\/li>\n<li>Conversational pop-ups are the most effective type, reaching a conversion rate of up to 15%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3 Tips for Safely Using Pop-Ups for Your Marketing Strategy<\/h3>\n<p>So how do you make sure you\u2019re using pop-up ads for your brand safely? Here are a few tips:<\/p>\n<h6>1. Have user experience in mind<\/h6>\n<p>User experience (UX) is Google\u2019s top priority. They aim to deliver search results whose content can be easily and intuitively accessed. As such, Google allows for interstitials and pop-ups as long as they are not intrusive.<\/p>\n<p>What are considered non-intrusive pop-ups?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Legally required pop-ups such as cookie usage notifications and age verification.<\/li>\n<li>Ad formats (e.g., slide-in ads, banner ads, and tabs) that take up reasonable screen space that does not disrupt the UX \u2014 around 15% of occupied screen space or less.<\/li>\n<li>Pop-ups that are easy to dismiss \u2014 that is, the exit button is easy to spot and select.<\/li>\n<li>Timed interstitials (e.g., overlays) that only pop up when triggered by an action \u2014 for example, when a user has finished reading your blog post. You can also configure it to automatically close after a certain amount of time, say 3 seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>2.
