However, Google has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/blog\/2021\/04\/more-details-page-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed back<\/a> the implementation to mid-June, giving us more time to prepare for this big change.<\/p>\n<h3>What Is the Page Experience Algorithm?<\/h3>\n<p>The Page Experience algorithm, as the term suggests, is a suite of ranking signals that gauge a user\u2019s overall experience on a given web page.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8178\" src=\"https:\/\/ilfusion.org\/dev\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pasted-image-0-700x1027.png\" alt=\"pasted image\" \/><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Image source: <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/blog\/2021\/04\/more-details-page-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Webmaster Central Blog<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new Page Experience report on Google Search Console combines the Core Web Vitals report (Loading, Interactivity, and Visual Stability) with their other ranking signals such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mobile usability<\/li>\n<li>Security issues<\/li>\n<li>HTTPS usage<\/li>\n<li>Ad experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google also added that the roll-out will be gradual to allow for a less drastic change and to carefully monitor any unexpected issues. They are targeting to complete the implementation by the end of August 2021.<\/p>\n<h3>4 Tips to Improve Your Website\u2019s User Experience<\/h3>\n<p>How do you prepare your website for this change? Here are a few things you can do now to help boost both your Page Experience and SEO:<\/p>\n<h6>1. Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly and usable<\/h6>\n<p>In spite of the fact that more than half of the world\u2019s population (<a href=\"https:\/\/datareportal.com\/global-digital-overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">67.1%<\/a>) use their mobile device to surf the internet, there remain a number of websites that are considered non-mobile-friendly. If your website isn\u2019t built for mobile use, it\u2019s high time to make the change now.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, even if your website has a responsive <a href=\"https:\/\/ilfusion.org\/dev\/staging\/4-ui-ux-design-trends-that-will-take-center-stage-in-2021\">web design<\/a>, its usability matters more. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.impactplus.com\/blog\/mobile-marketing-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">83%<\/a> of mobile internet users expect a \u201cflawless\u201d experience when accessing websites from their phones.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things you can do to get started:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor your website\u2019s Mobile Usability report in Google Search Console and fix errors as soon as possible<\/li>\n<li>Spot-check individual pages on Google\u2019s Mobile-Friendly Test<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>2. Check for security issues<\/h6>\n<p>With people\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ilfusion.org\/dev\/staging\/5-ways-to-improve-your-e-commerce-stores-online-shopping-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increasing reliance<\/a> on the internet, website security is important now more than ever, and Google is including this as a key part of their Page Experience algorithm.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t already, make sure that your website runs on HTTPS. Newly created websites by default run on HTTP (which is non-encrypted), so you will have to switch to HTTPS (which is encrypted) by doing the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Purchase an SSL certificate. Your web hosting provider may offer this but you can also buy from third-party providers like Comodo SSL, DigiCert, and GeoTrust.<\/li>\n<li>Install the SSL certificate on your hosting account.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on your website CMS, change your website links from HTTP to HTTPS. For WordPress, follow the steps here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpbeginner.com\/wp-tutorials\/how-to-add-ssl-and-https-in-wordpress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Properly Move WordPress from HTTP to HTTPS<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s also prudent to audit your website for security issues from time to time. To do this, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/search.google.com\/search-console\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Search Console<\/a>, then select <strong>Security &amp; Manual Actions \u2192 Security issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h6>3. Make sure that forms are served on HTTPS<\/h6>\n<p>In addition to the previous point, it\u2019s important that the forms and other embedded resources you use are secure and usable. This is particularly important for payment forms and other pages that require users to input sensitive data; at the very least, it should be served on HTTPS as well.<\/p>\n<p>A quick way to check this is to run a website security audit, as previously described through Google Search Console or use tools like Screaming Frog to check for security issues.<\/p>\n<h6>4. Use intrusive interstitials sparingly<\/h6>\n<p>Intrusive interstitials, or popups, are just that: intrusive and, more often than not, contribute to a bad user experience.<\/p>\n<p>However, not all popups are considered bad. If you choose to use popups for your forms, do so sparingly and with caution.
