It basically shows you snippets (thus the term rich snippets) of relevant data extracted by search bots of marked up content from your website.<\/p>\n<p>It must be taken into consideration that no matter how smart Google search results have become, it still needs a little help in understanding what your web content really means, and this is how structured data fits into the picture.<\/p>\n<p>The value of structured data goes beyond helping search bots interpret your content; it\u2019s also valuable in boosting SEO for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Firstly, when search engines understand the semantics of your content, it will rank higher on search results<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, visitors tend to click more on rich results, consequently boosting click through rates (CTR) and driving organic traffic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Structured data also enables content-related actions, such as adding flight and event reservations directly to your calendar. Currently, the most popular combination is using schema.org for marking up microdata, and JSON-LD for linking this data.<\/p>\n<p>For beginners, Google has a Structured Data Markup Helper, which helps you to easily mark up content and generate the structured data HTML code. Content management systems (CMS) like WordPress and Joomla also have plugins available for managing structured data.<\/p>\n<p>Here, we\u2019ll provide you with tips on how to implement structured data to your website using Google\u2019s Structured Data Markup Helper:<\/p>\n<h6>1. Select your schemas<\/h6>\n<p>There are many different kinds of schemas depending on your data type. The common website data types include the following:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li>Articles<\/li>\n<li>Events<\/li>\n<li>Movies<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants<\/li>\n<li>Book reviews<\/li>\n<li>Job postings<\/li>\n<li>Products<\/li>\n<li>Software apps<\/li>\n<li>Datasets<\/li>\n<li>Local businesses<\/li>\n<li>Q&amp;A page<\/li>\n<li>TV episodes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google\u2019s Structured Data Markup Helper also supports <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/3105381?topic=3070267\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">schema markups on email templates<\/a>. The following email data types include the following:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li>Event reservations<\/li>\n<li>Flight reservations<\/li>\n<li>Restaurant reservations<\/li>\n<li>Hotel reservations<\/li>\n<li>Car rental reservations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>2. Enter the page URL for tagging<\/h6>\n<p>Paste the URL of the page you wish to mark up for structured data and select <strong>Start Tagging<\/strong>. For email templates, you\u2019ll need to paste the source HTML. Highlight text or images for tagging<\/h6>\n<p>Start tagging or marking up your data by highlighting text or images, and then assign the appropriate schema tags to them. Add the script to your page<\/h6>\n<p>Simply copy-paste the code to the head section of your HTML, and then you\u2019re almost done.<\/p>\n<h6>6. Test your markup<\/h6>\n<p>It\u2019s highly recommended to test your markup to see if everything is in order; otherwise, Google will penalize pages for marking up incorrect, misleading, or hidden data. The tool then displays all the marked up data, as well as information about any errors and warnings detected.
