As of January 2015, you’ve been seeing a lot less promotional content on your Facebook newsfeed. Thanks to a new Facebook algorithm, users are getting less updates from the Pages they follow and more from the people they follow. Facebook is constantly updating<\/a> so that you can see the content you are interested in. For you as a social Facebook user, you know that this means less scrolling, less ads, and more cute pictures and fun videos. But what does it mean for you as a Page owner?<\/p>\n

Last year, Facebook pages had about 1 billion views – clearly, they’re getting a lot of traffic. But thanks to recent surveys, Facebook HQ decided to switch up the newsfeed. Does this mean your Page has become irrelevant? No. Does it mean you\u2019re going to need to up the ante? Yes.<\/p>\n

Facebook understands how valuable your Page is to your business, big or small. According to an article published on the Facebook for Business website, “They [Pages] work across desktop, mobile and tablets without requiring any extra configuration, and contain complete information about a business. They also offer tools to create videos, photos and events that bring a business\u2019 story to life.”<\/p>\n

So why do they want less of us on the world’s feeds?<\/h6>\n

According to survey responders, Page posts were becoming a little too much like the ads you saw on the side of your screen. For some, the text was the exact same on both. Too many posts were trying to directly sell a product. So how do you make your Page stand out from those getting left out? Don\u2019t try to sell a product in a post.<\/p>\n

Pages are a great place to share testimonials, pictures, and stories. They’re great for giving your brand personality and marketing bravado. And Facebook wants to keep it that way.To keep your posts relevant to your subscribers, keep it short and sweet, with minimal click-bait. Save that for the side-screen ads, and just let Pages do what it does best: showcase the brand you\u2019ve worked so hard to create.<\/p>\n

Try to stray from basing your social media influence strictly on followers, look at the bigger picture. There are many Facebook users that will use your Page for directions, hours, a little extra information or a phone number. Are those users any less important to you? We would all love if every user was a dedicated follower, who hung on every post, but it is much more important to have current information about your business than a bunch of clickable articles and a ton of posts.<\/p>\n
