As the Production Manager, my days are filled with calendars, milestones and to-dos, but there is an important aspect of my job that’s rarely talked about. Although I’m constantly filling every team member’s schedule with project milestones and to-dos for client requests, it’s my job to make sure that the needs of our team are being met. We pride ourselves on creating award winning work, and a big part of accomplishing that goal is keeping the team motivated throughout the duration of the project. \nHave you ever had someone fill up your calendar with stuff and you had no idea what it was? You suddenly feel a sense of panic and obligation mixed with confusion. That isn’t the best way to introduce the team to a new project. At Ilfusion, we keep the entire project team involved from starting line to finish line. It’s important to get the team’s input even during the sales cycle because the only people that can properly scope out the work are the people who will actually be responsible for the deliverables. Making sure your team is on board with the project expectations is crucial to a successful project launch. Not only does this allow for collaboration, but it gives each team member the opportunity to provide input before the green flag is dropped.<\/p>\n
\nIt’s important to know your team well because everyone has different skill sets and communication styles. Have you ever been handed a task that was outside of your capabilities? Or tried to interpret someone else’s notes that almost appear like a foreign language? You can feel defeated before you even begin working on a project. You can really increase your team members motivation if you are mindful of how they prefer to work. As the Production Manager, I’m always racing toward the project finish line, but I have to stop and have frequent check ins with my pit crew along the way.<\/p>\n
\nHave you ever accomplished something you had been striving toward and just received a pat on the back? Or maybe you were going through a rough time and no one acknowledged you? The project finish line isn’t the one and only opportunity to celebrate team success. There are several project milestones in between the kickoff and completion date that are worthy of praise and reward. The team needs to stop for a dose of encouragement and support throughout the project in order to refuel, similar to how drivers have to stop for fuel in order to finish the race.<\/p>\n
