With multiple other applicants, at times it can feel as if you’re just another number.

But, in December 2017, I was fortunate enough to receive an offer to intern at an agency in Fort Worth. You guessed it—here at J.O. I did my research ahead of time and was banking on this opportunity. When I got the call that I received the position, I literally ran around my house in celebration. I’d wanted to intern for an agency and was granted the opportunity.

J.O. stands out in comparison to other agencies. The clients J.O. has and the work the team produces are second-to-none compared to those of agencies with twice as many people. Another reason I chose to apply for this position was the size of the team. Over the past five months, I have learned a tremendous amount from this tight-knit team. In a small agency, I was able to see directly what everyone was working on and see how each piece coincided and connected. I saw first-hand how everyone contributes to the team.

Throughout my college career, I’ve learned to be a chameleon. You must learn how to blend in with multiple personalities and cultures in this industry. No matter how well you work by yourself, it’s important to work well with people on a team. Being the president of the PRSSA chapter at UT-Arlington taught me you must learn how to follow before you can lead.

The best advice I can give future interns is to be a sponge and take notes! You are not above any task. Take every opportunity seriously, and I promise you’ll get it back tenfold. I have no doubt in my mind that after this internship, I’m prepared for the field.

Robert Williams,
Marketing Intern

The hunt for an agency internship is challenging.
